YouTube Basics #4 – Scheduling and Prioritizing
I used to hate scheduling SO much. Then I realized the most successful people I knew and talked to used it to their advantage. They were able to use it to also keep their priorities straight. This is exactly what you’re going to do with your YouTube channel. You’re going to schedule and prioritize.
Something to think about…What’s more important to you?
What’s more important to you? The success of your YouTube channel or playing another game of League of Legends? In some cases people would say another game of League of Legends (I get it, you’re trying to hit Gold, bro!). This is exactly what you’re going to use to your advantage. You’re going to make sure that your uploads of amazing content are the priority. No playing games (how could I say that!?) until your video is uploaded on the day that your upload. Easy enough.
Step 1: Create an upload schedule
Maybe your work and school schedule changes around, but that’s okay. Create a schedule you’ll be able to devote yourself to for uploading videos. The best way to start would be slow. One to two videos a week, each being uploaded by a specific day. Now this doesn’t mean you have to create them that day, but that’s your upload schedule. Your creation schedule is another thing for you to figure out around your own personal schedule.
Step 2: Make sure your priorities are right
I talked about this a bit, but I wanted to point out that is also ties into other things other then gaming. Obviously family, health, work, school and possibly some other things come first in life, but you’re going to need to immediately think of your channel as job #2 that you want to make #1 as quickly as possible. Hey, guess what, in order to do that you need to stay on track.
Step 3: Continue updating your schedule around your categories that you add.
If you add another category you’re going to want to update your schedule accordingly. Maybe you originally were uploading videos Tues-Thurs, well now it’s time to fit another video in there somehow! The channels upgrading and expanding so maybe it’s even time to devote more time to it!
Step 4: BE PERSISTENT
If there’s ONE THING that you take from this whole tutorial I hope it’s this. Persistence is king here. Obviously everything else falls into place once you start getting the ball rollin’, but you need to stay persistent. No one wants to see “Starting my YouTube Channel back up”. Why? Because I can go watch the person who didn’t quit the first time around and who is still dedicating his/her time to the success of the channel! That person is the person I want to see. They KNOW they’re going to make it! This is SO HUGE and will put you so far ahead of other channels.
