Not to long ago (back in December) I wrote a post about My Podcast Gear. That covered the microphone and swivel mount and some goodies, but now I wanted to write a bit about other options. I’m going to repeat my current set up shortly, but then I will also give some other great choices for microphones and headsets to use while streaming.
My Current Gear
My current gear is pretty simple. If you’ve already been to the “My Podcast Gear” post, you know all about it. I’ll quickly run through it though, and mention one more thing that I really love using occasionally. The microphone I’m currently using that you could all see while I’m streaming is: Audio-Technica ATR2100-USB Cardioid Dynamic USB/XLR Microphone. You could use it just how it comes to you, but I suggest buying a nice holder/swivel stand and a even a pop filter (for like 5-10 bucks). My pop filter was 6-7 bucks and is Dragonpad pop filter Studio Microphone Mic Wind Screen Pop Filter Swivel Mount 360 Flexible Gooseneck Holder
. I didn’t do any research into filters, but it works just great!
Extra: Sometimes when I want to have a little bit of fun with a voice changer, or even when I don’t want the music/sound coming through the speakers, I swap back over to my first ever “awesome” headset. I’ve had headsets before it, but this one is the first AWESOME one! This headset being the Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset G930 with 7.1 Surround Sound. It has a built in voice changer (as stated), the charging, features and really everything about it…still amaze me!
Other Gear I suggest
There are two peices of gear that I have tried, and REALLY like as well. I don’t like them enough to completely swap my current set-up, but had I been starting over they would definitely be in the initial running for top picks! As far as microphones go, I know tons of people using them, and I extemely suggest giving them a shot if they fit your style better. They’re smaller and will not need a swivel mount (and usually not even a pop filter). These are the Blue Microphones Yeti USB Microphone – Silver
and the Blue Microphones Snowball iCE Condenser Microphone, Cardioid
. Obviously the Yeti is an upgraded model, but both definitely do the trick!
Extra: I don’t want to make you think I’m a headset Nazi so I’m throwing in another one here as well! As far as sound and comfort goes, Astro really makes a great headset. One specifically that I’ve personally tried for a while was the ASTRO Gaming A40 PC Headset Kit. It doesn’t have to be this one specifically, my younger brother even has one for his Xbox, but any Astro will most likely not fail you!
