Streaming Basics #4 – What kind of streamer do you want to be?
This tutorial is going to be a bit on the shorter side because I don’t want to overwhelm you with an explanation AND a story. That being said, this page is all about the decision you have to make. I will try my best to give you steps to take towards the right decision, but in the long run only you can decide.
What do I mean? What am I talking about?
Every streamer needs to first know their personality and what they want to portray to their audience. We talked a bit about this when we discussed what game you want to be playing. The options for such a a streamer would be High Level Gamer, Entertainer, or Both. Both would be a difficult decision, but some people can still pull it off pretty easily. Decide what you can give your audience and what you could be best at. If you’re streaming your number one game but your still not at a high level, maybe high level game play isn’t the best fit. Same goes for entertainer. If you are kind of shy and your much better at explaining what goes on in a specific game because you happen to be a beast, it’s better not to force crappy jokes!
Side Note
If you haven’t read my about me that’s okay because I’m going to reiterate it a bit now. When I first started streaming I didn’t know what direction I wanted to go. I also was hopping around from game to game and in turn losing a bunch of my following each time. Finally I decided to cut down a bit and stick to one game, but at the level I was good at playing it. That happened to not be the best, but still better then the majority of players. I decided that I really liked talking about the game and what decisions I was making, but also entertaining. When I was playing a game I was able to answer questions and take advice and play with my viewers, but I also wanted a fun stream. I didn’t want to be boring. Once I settled down a bit and stuck to one game, and decided what I wanted to portray, I was then able to start getting followers FOR ME. They were there because they wanted to see me. It was then I was able to test things which enabled me to get 100 followers in a night, and even 1000 a week and more. That’s when it really took off for me. I suggest doing the same.
What’s next?
In the next tutorial we are going to take a look into the streamer Maldiva. He’s a High Level Gamer who just recently competed in World of Warcraft PvP at Blizzcon. We will be able to listen to the podcast interveiw, but I will also share his story for you guys in my own words. After we get through with the next two stories, it’ll be time for you to make your decision.
