After doing a recent survey and getting TONS of feedback, one answer in particular stuck out to me and made me think. I wasn’t asking questions that seemed crazy, and I’m assuming no one else thought they were either, but for some reason this person gave his/her tip to be more realistic with people. I want to make it clear that there are countless ways to make money doing what you love, if gaming is in fact that. I’m not telling you that you strictly have to “make it” to begin making money. Would it be nice to suddenly go viral and suddenly have an easy road to fame? Of course. The thing is, it’s most likely not going to happen, but if you begin working on your Twitch, YouTube, or any other type of income stream that is run off Community, eventually it will grow big enough to start making an income. It all depends on how much work you plan on putting in.
That being said, there are other ways to make money gaming. I think seeing as how we focus so much on streaming, YouTube, Professional Gaming, and eSports, it may be time to take a step back and focus more on side income for a bit! We’ve obviously already talking about some other ways, and even gold farming for example, but if you’re good at a game, and you’re not taking advantage of tournaments, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
Tournaments
How do you start getting more involved in big tournaments with HUGE payouts? You work your way up and/or make a name for yourself. Right? You can’t just suddenly expect to vs. Optic in COD or TSM in LoL tomorrow for a grand prize of 1 million dollars if you haven’t yet earned your stripes. We already know that even ONE Dota 2 tournament alone has dished out 1.42 million dollars, and we’ve also talked about the Top 5 Highest Paying eSports Games. Now I’ll eventually talk a little bit more about Gamebattles below, but first I’d like to tell a story about when Hearthstone came out recently.
Story Time
Hearthstone came out, and to me it was a new Magic the Gathering, which I LOVED when I was younger. I instantly ranked to the highest ranks possible and continued to do so when they changed the ranked systems. At that time I also joined a new Facebook group and began talking to some random new Hearthstone players about what was working and what wasn’t. Without naming anyone during this story, one person in the group was very persistent. Constantly telling us about his undefeated Gamebattles account in Hearthstone, and trying to get us involved because their wasn’t enough people for him to beat on ladders. I brushed it off and thought I could beat him, but had no interest in joining in. I remember reading a post about how he never was this good at a game which in turn made him want to take complete advantage of this one and ride it for all it’s worth. This player was an absolute no name, just to clear that up. Now, fast forward past some growth in Hearthstone, no name player is not only making money in tournaments on Gamebattles, but having used that to prove his worth, he’s also making GREAT money in larger tournaments and traveling the world to challenge other amazing players.
One thing I want to point out about this story is that one of the Facebook group members actually did challenge him. I could never forget the post about it because of how upset he was that he lost. The other player was apparently awesome at the game, beat him 2-0, but yet, never took advantage of how good he was so no name will continue to be the only gamer in this story to flourish.
Gamebattles Sponsorship Request
There are some people I know who have awesome stats on Gamebattles, yet have never played for money. Hopefully that’s not you as well, but if it is, it’s time to start profiting. Just because this article is about proving your worth, we also want you to make money from your endeavors. If you cannot enter a tournament because you don’t have the money to enter, start shooting out sponsorship requests telling them that’s all your looking for. When sponsors see tons and tons of requests, most of the time people are looking for cash or products. Heck, even send us a sponsorship request. Take into consideration that you may have not yet proven your worth. Can you offer to reimburse your sponsor for each time you win? Do you have the confidence to succeed and in turn you really just need someone to invest in you? If so, let them know that you’d be willing to do that. While this isn’t the only way to make money gaming, and we talk a lot about “making it big”, there are other ways to get it done. I hope you can start today.
