I wanted to write this post strictly because a few people have asked me if they have to stream in order to make money playing video games. The answer is no. When I first started making some money playing video games, streaming wasn’t even in the picture. There are tons of ways to make money playing video games other then streaming, and other then even playing in tournaments as well.
Gold and Item Farming
This is one of the first things I started doing when I wanted to make some money playing video games. To my surprise it started working pretty quickly. There are websites and other people who do this more often then you would think. The good news is that if you’re not looking to just randomly start your own business, you can easily sell
the excess gold you are farming to all these other companies. The conversion isn’t amazing, but you have to find the proper technique for each game to make money. The person who got me started with this is called “The World of Warcraft Millionaire“. I did some research and there is a guide using this name as well but I don’t believe they are related. Basically what this guy does is manipulate the Auction House on tons of different servers while he farms items and gold to then sell for a real world profit. Pretty amazing if you ask me!
Video Game Tester
This one is just something I HAVE to name. I think it’s pretty obvious that this makes you money while playing video games, but it’s so obvious that I can’t not name it here. I won’t go into detail on how you can get these jobs, perhaps I can cover that in another article at another time, but I will just throw this here for people who may have forgotten a job like this existed!
Writing
Writing isn’t easy, but there are a ton of different solutions for going into a career with writing about video games. You don’t have to immediately attempt to work for a big name company as a writer. That tends to be much more difficult then people realize. Another way of writing about video games is by creating a blog. There are a ton of successful blogs about a ton of different video games, so what makes you think that you can’t be the one creating one of these? It’s possible and I’m sure you can find an audience for yourself if you tried hard enough! Another way of doing this would be by writing guides. If you’re really good at a specific game but don’t have the opportunity to go into tournaments, or just don’t want to, writing guides can be a great way to earn an income.
