I am one that loves to have a nice JAM session when he streams! That being said, what is something you always see or hear when watching other peoples streams? That’s right, MUSIC! You might also see several streams that have a moving text overlay in the corner of their screen. This is to inform the listener of what song is actually playing and allows the streamer not to answer every 30 seconds when they get the question: “What song is playing?” With the new release of Twitch Music we want you to know why it is important to have music for your stream!
It also makes for a great conversation starter as you begin to look for easy ways to communicate with your stream. Tell them why you listen to your music, let them know! They want to know more about you and you should let them know, you are a celebrity in your own way.
So why is music so important to a stream? Well lets look at a few scenarios from a viewers perspective:
- Bob has a stream that has a nice display and NO music or music overlay for what is playing
- Bob also gets distracted during certain points in his game and didn’t commentate for his viewers
- That time is now filled with silence or game play noises
- Kyle has a stream that has nice display and Music with an overlay!
- Kyle got distracted during a certain point in a game and didn’t communicate for his viewers
- That moment was filled with some of Kyle’s favorite tunes!
Now between Kyle and Bob, Kyle was able to relate to his viewers through music, Kyle now has common interest with his viewers over the type of music he listens to!
Music is a gateway to people, some people love music, others don’t.
For Game-play streamers, who really focus on game play and have a little lower level of full commentating, music is a great filler. Most people watching a gamer play a dedicated game more than likely don’t care to hear the sounds that hear on daily basis as well. I’m not saying to turn off your game sound off, but tune it down a bit.
For Entertainment streamers, this is bit more complicated but should be considered for your situation. Entertainment streamers are talking and conversing with their chat more! This is great but remember, if you have music, your listeners are now drowning out the music to listen to you. Volume control with your music and microphone are very important! As an entertainer, you get the opportunity to SING to your viewers and demonstrate that gorgeous voice you have!
Don’t be afraid to belt out your favorite line of Journey! I’m not going to unfollow because of that, well…maybe….anyways! How does one go about setting up music and not getting hurt by copyrights. Twitch has a duty to provide ethics to society and they believe in copyrights for music. Now as much as this is a dilemma for some people, Twitch has helped us out! They have produced Twitch Music which is royalty free music specifically for broadcasters like yourself! All Twitch asks is that you put a simple logo and link on your broadcasting page. This allows you to not worry about playing a random song on Pandora and getting sound blocked on your highlighted videos. It does take a little getting use to as you will have to create a playlist on Spotify or Soundcloud with those titles
Now how do I get that cool little text overlay on my stream? There are several great tutorials on how to, If you are using OBS , here is one I like! It requires a little downloading and file managing but it is a great way to get started!
Get jiggy with and jam on! Don’t be afraid to sing! Maybe it will get you a few more followers!
Here is our ProGamerHub Spotify Playlist! We went through Twitch Music and took what we liked and compiled it for you guys!
