YouTube Basics #3 – Graphics and Staying on Topic and Engaging
Okay. Everyone loves graphics, but what is going to catch peoples eyes? What are you going to be able to use to your advantage? Hopefully you took a look at what some of the Top Gaming YouTube-ers were doing and have an idea of what you want to do already. Well if not, you better start thinking!
Something to think about…Make it easy on youself!
I’m not expecting everyone that is reading this to be a PhotoShop wiz. Actually I don’t expect the majority of people are actually. Maybe you just know the basics. Well, thankfully that’s fine! If you take a look at channels like PewDiePie (the TOP YOUTUBER on the list with 32 MILLION subscribers), his graphics aren’t all that difficult! Still too hard? Fine, take a look at VanossGaming’s channel. With something like this you’re able to simply change the main image and text to what the video is about, but also stick to a common theme! Perfect! Now you’re set, right?
Step One: Take a ride over to Fiverr.com and get an awesome channel art graphic made up.
Obviously you can also use a graphic artist on Twitter or in the community of gamers all over the place, but I really like Fiverr, so that’s why I’m suggesting it. Why start a channel and start advertising before you have awesome graphics? Remember, you want to catch everyone’s attention and also already look professional and awesome!
Step Two: Change the main channel art to your new graphic.
Step Three: Get a base image created that you’re going to use for your videos, or make one yourself.
This is a little more tricky, but I think you have it in you. If you’re going to stick to a common theme for every single video like Vanoss, you can definitely pull this off. Get the graphic made up so that you have a file you can simply go into and change 1-2 images and text each time you’re planning on uploading a new video!
Step Four: Remember to think about your theme and topic each time you create a video.
You’re going to clearly be able to have different categories, but you need to think about what your main goal and topic is going into each video. It’s okay to stray off every once in a while, AND even add categories to hit new markets, but are you ready for that? Have you already engaged your current audience? Probably not! Make some more awesome content and start marketing!
