This seems to be a common question among the everyday person and gamers wanting to start a YouTube channel. I would like to start by saying I highly recommend a YouTube channel, but also wouldn’t immediately assume it to be the number one source for your income, because this generally isn’t the case. YouTube is also a great way to get people to the places you will really begin to make money. It’s great to diversify yourself into all the streams of money so that your overall stream grows.
How much YouTube Paid someone for 4 Million Views:
This is a ton of views so I was immediately interested when I saw someone send this link in my direction. Here it is for those of you who actually want to go directly to the site. What it basically shows is that YouTube paid $5,675.51 for 4 million views over the course of 6 years. Unfortunately unless your Miley Cyrus I don’t think you will be seeing this many views on average, which means you will also not be making a great deal of money.
Sell ads directly:
If you do start getting a good deal of views and subscribers there is another way to try and diverify your income. You can go down the sponsorship route and promote products from sponsors and then usually be reimbursed with there product, OR you can sell ad space on your video. This involves looking for people who want to advertise their service or product and then informing them you have X amount of views and subscribers and have ad space available. The money you make from this definitely varies, but gives you another income stream if needed.
Another view:
Below I’m going to post a nice line graph of someones income from YouTube videos. This shows that they are monetized and the amount of money they are recieving from just about 24,000 views.
Summary:
You CAN make money on YouTube, and there are ways of creating more money for yourself, but it is more than likely you will be using it as a way to stream people back to your main sources of income or a place to grow your sense of community with your viewers.
