Okay Streamers, we all want the answer to the magical question. Well that’s what this article is going to cover: “How to Become a Twitch Partner”. You all want that shiny subscribe button so you can start reeling in all the dough, right? Or maybe your poor soul doesn’t even know how much dough there is. If that’s the case, go back and read “How much do Pro Gamers make Streaming with Subscribers?“, a previous article that breaks it all down for you! If you didn’t want that shiny sub button, you sure will after reading that!
What Twitch expects
I figured the best way to start is to simply go over what Twitch expects from you before applying. Here’s what you see when applying for their partnership:
Alright, so that can’t be to hard right? They give you some information room at the bottom of the screen which allows to show you have a slight following before applying. This contains YouTube, Social Media, and even extra details you can include. This is basically like sending in a job application/resume. If you’re not good at doing that, maybe take a look here and attempt to use what we talk about during a sponsorship application to your advantage with Twitch.
What to take advantage of…
I think what people overlook when applying is the text directly under the requirements where it states:
If you’re not currently creating video content elsewhere, but think people would still tune in to watch you, feel free to apply. Tell us more about your presence in the gaming community, what you plan to broadcast, and any other things that would make you a good partner (e.g. “I’m huge on Twitter!”, “I’ve been a competitive Quake player since 2005”, etc.). We want the best gaming content out there, so help us find it!
Twitch wants to partner with you! They want to give you more ways to make them say yes. They’re not as bad as you think they are really! I know a bunch of people who have had to apply countless times before finally getting they’re acceptance letter in the mail. It’s okay if you have to apply over and over, you’re not annoying them, and if you are, that’s okay too. You’re trying to pave your future with a new job!
My favorite part to take advantage of when applying is the part that says “We’re always excited by broadcasters who stream unique games”. If what your after is strictly getting that sub button and becoming a partner why not use this to your advantage? Play a unique game that isn’t streamed by everyone under the son, get whatever following you can, stream at least 3 times a week, and apply! They’ll reward you for it!
Authors note
If you don’t want to take advantage of what Twitch has to offer by playing a really unique game instead of the top games streamed, then you’re going to have to make yourself stand out. Have a huge twitter following, a big YouTube subscriber list, or something that makes you different then the rest of the applications they’re getting. When I said it’s like a job application and made the reference to the college acceptance letter in the mail, I wasn’t kidding. They receive TONS of applications for partners and they want to say yes to everyone, but can’t unless you deserve it. Do them a favor and give them a reason to say yes. Be unique, have a following, and devote time to your stream. If you need more viewers, go ahead and check out our article on that as well! Good luck!
